Dil Bechara was amazing, but the hype does justice neither to Sushant nor to John Green's bestseller.
Dil Bechara was supposed to break hearts......
Yes. It is true that the movie which "eventually became" the most awaited movie of most of the Bollywood fans got an IMDb rating of 9.8/10. But would this movie had pulled this record-breaking rating without Sushant's demise? The answer would be a disagreement. Sushant did make the character work which was given to him. He along with Sanjana did manage to make a way through the hearts of many people. They even managed to make people realize the very few moments they can enjoy with the loved ones around them. But the only fact that the movie gets slightly diminished from my point of view having read the book 'The Fault In Our Stars'(the original novel from which it is based) is that the director chose to change a few things present very clearly in the best selling book from author John Green.
The movie shouldn't have been altered compared to the book
The movie was based on the book, yes, but did the director Mukesh Chabbra really feel the read the book or just didn't feel the circumstances and the importance they gave for some things in their lives.
The book has clearly the best situations to deal which never should have been changed. Being read the book, I was really expecting Saif Ali Khan (who played Aftab) to meet Kizie in one of the ending scenes which was a quite remarkable part of the book. The tour of Paris was also supposed to give more space to Manny and Kizie before the eventual reveal of his ailment. Manny going to a theatre makes sense but he missed basketball too and having tried to play that instead of watching a movie would have made it better if they had to make the alteration. And above all, Augustus Waters (original male lead in the book) was better in mingling with the parents of Hazel Grace (female lead)
Some of the alterations were inevitable while they had to make an Indian version such as the place where Manny takes Kizie for the first time and they start getting to know each other. The very earnest and spiritual conversation between him and her dad was quite a good one too. And also the implementation of the word "okay" as "sari" was also delightful. These are the things which didn't quite look like diminished the beauty of the original novel but made the hearts melt also because of the final performance of the late actor.
It will be remembered as the last performance of Sushant Singh Rajput
No matter how much you try, but this is eventually going to stay in many young hearts as the last movie of the late actor and entertainer rather than it being based on the award-winning novel. It doesn't mean that his performance and skills were in any ways less in the movie. The fact that he pulled off a song in one take is quite mesmerizing in itself and shows a lot of character. It is in no way to be believed that this character made him to what he did but it was surely seen in this movie that depression is not something which people want to show off. The one part of this movie where he expresses his life after his leg was operated to Kizie's dad in a downpour was really heart warming and shed a lot of value towards how we should emphasize the meaning of life. He will always be remembered as a good actor who had a ever-lasting smile.
Why doesn't it do justice to either of them?
Yes, the movie was wonderful and it made me emotional. But it wasn't a lot because of Sushant. For those who have read and felt the book, this wasn't just a movie and they cannot just ignore the feeling they have for the book. The actors did a really good job but it doesn't do justice to the author since a lot of changes were made and also the fact that 'no movie can ever replace a heart-touching book'. I am being really honest and I believe that not even half of the people who watched the movie would have been interested if the actor didn't have left us. It would just be a bunch of people including me who had read the novel or Sushant's fans excited for this movie. His demise has a lot to do with the hype which the movie couldn't have created without.
These particular things which I wrote, were in no way against Sushant or his acting skills but a lot to do with the remake of the movie and how the people who never actually cared for either the novel or Sushant who created the hype just for the sake of their attention and their own intentions. If this has to do anything with nepotism in Bollywood, then there is no denying that it would have never existed if it wasn't for us viewers who make them what they are.
Have a great time and everyone who reads this have all the right to say whatever they want in the comments below.
